Green Resilient and Retrofit Program

HUD Green and Resilient Retrofit Program (GRRP) and NGBS Verification Services

HUD GRRP Overview

The HUD Green and Resilient Retrofit Program (GRRP) is designed to provide funding for multifamily housing projects that focus on sustainability and resilience. Projects seeking GRRP funding must meet specific criteria to enhance energy efficiency, reduce environmental impact, and increase resilience to natural disasters. GRRP funding can be pursued through three main criteria: Elements, Leading Edge, and Comprehensive.

GRRP Criteria

1. Elements

The Elements criteria focus on the fundamental aspects of green building and sustainability. This includes improving energy and water efficiency, using sustainable materials, and enhancing indoor air quality. Projects that meet the Elements criteria are those that implement basic green building practices to achieve a foundational level of sustainability.

2. Leading Edge

The Leading Edge criteria are for projects that go beyond the basics and incorporate advanced sustainability measures. This includes cutting-edge technologies and innovative practices that set a higher standard for energy efficiency, water conservation, and overall environmental performance. Leading Edge projects often serve as models for the industry, demonstrating the benefits of forward-thinking sustainability practices.

3. Comprehensive

The Comprehensive criteria represent the highest level of commitment to sustainability and resilience. Projects that meet this criterion address all aspects of green building, from energy and water efficiency to resilience against natural disasters and climate change. Comprehensive projects integrate multiple sustainability strategies to create buildings that are not only green but also resilient and adaptable to future challenges.

Our Services

At Desert Skies Energy, we provide essential services to help your multifamily project achieve GRRP funding through HUD by meeting the necessary criteria for NGBS Silver and Gold verification, MBEST Project Verification, and GRRP Benchmarking.

NGBS Verification

We offer NGBS (National Green Building Standard) Silver and Gold verification for existing multifamily projects. Our verification services ensure that your project meets the rigorous standards required for GRRP funding. We assess various aspects of your project, including energy efficiency, water conservation, and indoor air quality, to ensure compliance with NGBS criteria.

MBEST Project Verification

Our MBEST (Multifamily Building Efficiency Standards and Technology) Project Verification service helps you identify critical mechanical and building envelope features related to the existing building condition.  This service is required by HUD but recommended to be outsourced to a professional to ensure it is accurately completed.

GRRP Benchmarking

GRRP Benchmarking is a critical service offered to help you understand where your project stands in terms of energy and water usage. We provide a comprehensive benchmarking analysis to track and compare your utility data to other comparable projects.

Desert Skies Energy is dedicated to helping multifamily projects achieve HUD GRRP funding by providing expert verification and benchmarking services. Whether you need NGBS Silver or Gold verification, MBEST Project Verification, or GRRP Benchmarking, our team is here to support you every step of the way.
